Today's Topic: The Cleanup Address
4 forks and 7 spoons ago, our fathers brought forth this soupbowl, concieved in steam, and dedicated to the proposition that microwave time is 2 minutes. Now we are engaged in this Great Spillage, testing whether Bounty napkins, or any napkins, can long endure. We have met on the kitchen floor for this war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that soup, as a final snack for those who still must eat lunch. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we cannot refrigerate-we cannot concentrate-we cannot swallow-this soup. The many napkins, saturated or not, who sat there, have dried it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note nor long remember what we spill here, but it can never forget what stains here. It is for us, the cutlilery, rather, to be dedicated to the great task remaining before us, and that detergent of the kitchen, by the Glad company, for the stains, shall not perish from this house.
